Department Introduction

Our hospital has been the most important training center for emergency specialists in central Taiwan since 1997, when Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) green-lighted our license as a professional training hospital. All the resident doctors trained by us passed the license exam and then stayed with us or went to other hospitals in central Taiwan.

China Medical University Hospital is the most important emergency medical center in central Taiwan, and has been among a handful of Taiwan medical facilities that can handle critical emergency incidences, as evaluated recently by MOHW. Clinical or academic, our performances are among the best.

Through our clinical training center, we actively participate in the teaching of new staff and encourage the students to take the initiative to learn and simulate operations and to strengthen their clinical skills.

We teach many critical illness-handling skills, including critical care ultrasound, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Emergency Trauma Training Course, among others.

We often co-organize academic symposiums with Taiwan Society of Emergency Medicine on different subjects like: symptoms of emergent infections, ENT and ophthalmology, medical ethics and doctor-patient relationships, etc., as well as various training courses (e.g., AHA's BLS and ACLS courses, EMS, AILS Trainee and Instructor Training Courses.)

Our attending doctors double as medical instructors at Taichung City Fire Department. After the merger of Taichung City and Taichung County, we play a more important role in planning the pre-hospital emergency medical aid system, setting the standard operating procedures for medics, and supervising/examining ambulance service. Many of our attending doctors are invited to compile the manual of emergency care sponsored by National Fire Agency under Ministry of the Interior.

In the future, we will work towards "standardization," in which SOPs are set for patient consultation or workflow so as to improve efficiency and monitor quality. We will make emergency medicine synonymous with promptness, reliability and quality.

Director

Doctor Te-Fa Chiu has Neurology and Emergency Surgery Specialist qualifications, Critical Care Medicine Specialist and Instructor, Ultrasound Specialist qualifications from Taiwan Society of Ultrasound in Medicine, Ultrasound Instructor from Taiwan Society of Emergency Medicine. He is passionate about Emergency Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Ultrasound, Medical Education and has deep research findings for emergency airway procedures and acute Acosta’s disease. Although tiring, being able to provide services for patients is a content and meaningful duty.

Kuan-Ho Lin

Deputy Director

After graduating from School of Medicine, Deputy Director Kuan-Ho Lin devoted a lot of effort into clinical emergency work and continued on to acquire Master and Doctorate degrees. He has also acquired ACLS, AILS, ETTC etc among other qualifications. He is currently an Assistant Professor at CMU as well as a Director of Taiwan Society of Emergency Medicine who is deeply concerned with the well being of patients and the development of Emergency Medicine.

Doctor Chin-Yuan Huang has been an Attending physician of Department of Emergency Medicine, China Medical University since 2010. Apart from specializing in Emergency Medicine, he also undergoes research in Disaster Medicine. In addition, Doctor Huang is as Instructor for Advanced cardiac life support & Emergency Ultrasound. He is an accomplished doctor in dealing with emergency treatment and care, critical trauma emergency treatment, Disaster medicine, emergency response, large number of patients and toxication disasters.

Kai-Wen Cheng

After completing his Emergency Specialist training at Department of Emergency Medicine, China Medical University Doctor Kai-Wen Cheng was promoted to an Attending physician and in 2012 he underwent advanced training and acquired a Master degree in “Health Care Administration” in 2014 and in 2015 accepted the role as promoter of Department of Emergency Medicine PGY, who was responsible for cultivating the critical skills and interests of young physicians. In 2017, he was appointed as the promoter of Department of Emergency Medicine Resident physician education promoter in hopes of training the med students to becoming critical case doctors who can contribute to society.

Wei-Jun Lin

Doctor Lin Wei-Jun has been working at Department of Emergency Medicine, China Medical University for many years now. He was the one who established the Department of Emergency’s ultrasound and image transmission system. Furthermore he is also an instructor for American Heart Association, Taiwan’s Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Taiwan Society of Emergency Medicine ultrasound. He specializes in research and teaching of critical ultrasound and has participated in numerous domestic and foreign ultrasound seminars. Moreover, he has held many basic and advanced ultrasound courses as well has large scale ultrasound competitions.
